Bush: Better human intelligence needed

Sweet mother of Mergatroid – Dubya gets one right.

I don’t know who Bush has been listening to lately, but there is a lot right with this article. The important questions are:

1: When he talks about “human intelligence” and makes the point that our enemies are doing a better job telling their story, are we hearing empty buzzwording or does this in fact indicate some interest in working with the really intelligent people who have been yarping about these subjects for the last few years?

2: Even if they get the basic theory right, will the administration’s efforts be bushwhacked (if you’ll pardon the expression) by the same old bugaboo that has plagued everything else they’ve tried to do – simple incompetence?

Time will tell. For what it’s worth, the smart money is on the “buzzwording” and “incompetence” daily double…

  • The linked article sounds like a thinly veiled attempt to institute something along the lines of a “Big Brother” spy network. You know as well as I do that this man wants to control anything and everything he can within the borders of this country, let alone that which is outside! The simple incompetence that you mention didn’t stop the government from establishing the global ECHELON system during the cold war. WE need to keep a close eye on what is coming out of Washington for at least the next four years. The CIA, NSA and FBI (and whatever other alphabet concoctions we have) will only be stronger after this new alignment. The National Intelligence Director will be nothing more than a Himmler style protector of the administration, no matter what it does to the innocent citizens of the US!

  • The incompetence I was referring to was specifically referring to the Bush administration.
The “human intel” thing is something we’ve been hearing from actual intel experts in the past few years. We have all the systems in the world, but you need real people on the ground – and preferably inside places like the al Qaeda network – if you’re going to be truly effective.
But as I say, this crowd isn’t bright enough to operate a self-cleaning oven, so I’m withholding my enthusiasm for the time being.
