Compensation

I was already somewhat bummed that, thanks to a variety of financial difficulties at the school here (for the moment I’ll stay clear of the various arguments as to who might be to blame for said shortfalls) the faculty was only looking at what’s being termed a 2% “pay raise.” The question of applying the term “raise” to an amount that likely fails to cover inflation is also something I’ll leave for another time.

I was just now informed that since I’m a first-year faculty member that “raise” doesn’t apply to me. So my salary for next year is slotted to be exactly what it is this year.

Hunh.

  • that’s fucked. i guess i’ll wait to book that plane ticket to New York.

  • I agree 2 percent is an insult and no percent is worse. I lost my position at SUNY Fredonia due to cuts following Sept. 11, so I understand. But, I hate to say this, I while I was an undergrad at Bonas there were two rounds of teaching cuts due to finacial straits — by the time I graduated half my profs had been let go from the school. What’s worse, I heard the alumns saying the school was about to go bankrupt (a friar friend later told me it was true).
I’m glad they’re not doing teaching cuts again. The school’s image really can’t afford that.
BTW, I like the other ljs you’ve put up this week.

  • I’ve heard plenty about the great purge from a few years back. I understand the fiscal realities, but I also have my own fiscal realities, you know?
