Gov. Bush wants probe of Schiavo collapse

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) — Gov. Jeb Bush asked a prosecutor Friday to investigate why Terri Schiavo collapsed 15 years ago, calling into question how long it took her husband to call 911 after he found her. (Story.)

Let me guess. If I recall, “the base” (that is, the rabid radical religious right) was not happy with Jeb’s failure to “do something” in Terri’s case, which is why he was rounding up a posse to ride in and forcibly reinsert her feeding tube at one point. Or pretending to – we’ll probably never know for sure. The important thing is that he looked like he was doing something.

So this stunt is probably his way of trying to reenergize some of his fundie supporters.

  • If I were a Florida resident, I’d be wondering very loudly why Brother Jeb didn’t notice a few more urgent issues that ought to be deserving of his attention. Then I’d wonder why we didn’t have recall…

  • That entire family is downright slimy. I think there must be a gene somewhere in there for deviousness and ability to lie with a straight face. Let’s hope the line ends soon.

  • Oh fer cryinoutloud!
I hope, when all of the dust settles down, that Michael Schiavo sues the pants off of Jeb Bush, Randall Terry, Fox News, and all of the other public figures who’ve been attacking him for slander and libel. Specifically, I hope that he announces, at the time of the summons, that after legal costs, all of the proceeds he receives from the suit will be donated to several Death with Dignity nonprofit organizations (which he lists specifically) in his late wife’s name.
I can think of no better, more poetic revenge that Mr. Schiavo could take on those who’ve been personally and publicly attacking him.

  • That’s not justice, though. JUSTICE would be for Jeb & Co. to wind up in a persistent vegetative state, cared for by their loving families, until they die naturally in 80 years or so.
