Fun with the AP

Man, somebody at the AP copy desk is either asleep at the wheel or having way too much fun at the expense of political reportage today. Check these two grafs from their story on the Lieberman/Lamont debate (byline: Susan Haigh, Political Writer):

“If he hoped to swing anybody, I think he used the wrong tact,” Tendler said of Lieberman’s efforts to portray Lamont as a political unknown who flip-flops on the issues. “For me, it was like Carl Rove wrote his lines for the debate.”

John Wirzbicki, a Democrat from Groton who writes the “Connecticut Blue” Web log, acknowledged that Lamont appeared a little shaky in the beginning of the debate. But said Lieberman was nasty, interrupting Lamont and taking up too much debate time. He said it was a marked difference from Lieberman’s gentile 2000 debate with Vice President Dick Cheney. And if you’re not having fun with this, who knows – the AP may be hiring…
