Boondocks, MLK and Niggas

Check mediastar‘s entry on the MLK “Niggas” episode from The Boondocks. Holy shit. I was originally skeptical about the Boondocks TV show. I just didn’t know if McGruder could translate his particular genius into the longer form. But this is brilliant, and he couldn’t have done it in a strip. I’m glad McGruder took this one on. I’ve written on

BB&T takes a stand against eminent domain

This is interesting. I wonder if other banks will follow suit. BB&T Corp. will not lend to commercial developers that plan to build condominiums, shopping malls and other private projects on land taken from private citizens by government entities using eminent domain, the bank holding company said Wednesday. “The idea that a citizen’s property can be taken by the government

RBC Centura survey: Southeast consumer confidence plunges

Only 33 percent of Southeastern residents believe the country is heading in the right direction economically, a percentage that mirrors the national average, according to RBC’s Southeastern Consumer Attitudes and Spending by Household Index. (Story.) Hunh. It’s a puzzler, all right. But hey, as long as we make sure queers in Boston can’t get married…. :xpost:

Anybody else uncomfortable about NFL playoff officiating?

sirpaulsbuddy is wondering about some of the same stuff I am, looks like. Via e-mail: Between the pass interference call in the Denver/NE game and the no pass interference call in the Indy/Pittsburgh game, you have to wonder. And let’s don’t mention Troy Hoopdedoo’s interception that got taken away on challenge. Uh-huh. And let’s don’t forget the “do-over” on the

Denver/NE review

Some stray thoughts on the Broncos/Pats game. 1: The better team won, albeit with a bit of help from the zebras and a lot from the Patriots themselves. New England did a helluva job this year, all things considered. You don’t lose two first-tier coordinators and suffer the injury problems they did and still click on as though nothing happened.

Just put on a happy face

Last night my wife, an absolutely pathological fan of musicals (she’s as discriminating about musicals as I am about pizza), was watching Bye Bye Birdie (1963). I accidentally watched a few minutes before realizing that WWE Friday Night Smackdown was on and, as fortune would have it, we own two TVs. One brief observation: damn, America used to be white.
