An idea to up the pace in NBA games
There have been lots of arguments over the declining pace and quality of NBA games in recent years. Scoring is down, the games are impossible to watch (the Pistons’ method of boring the opponent and crowd to death ruled supreme last year – I know I couldn’t watch it, even though I was loving the fact that the Lakers were losing). And we’ve heard all kinds of possible solutions – tinker the shot clock, move the three-point line, widen the court, alter defense rules, etc.
Here’s a simple one, and I wonder what effect it might have on the game. Might be a bad idea, might be a good one – you guys tell me. After a made bucket, the other team doesn’t have to take the ball out of bounds. It’s live as soon as it comes through the hoop. Grab it and run.
Might be interesting to see how it works for the college game, too. Hmmm.

I say give them sticks. Any game is better if you have sticks to hit your opponent with. Nothing lethal though. Maybe give them a shortened version of the shinai they use in Kendo. Yes indeed. I would watch basketball all the time if they had those. *nods*
‘Course, I don’t know how they would shoot the ball one handed, but I’m just the idea man here. 😀
Given the direction that pro sports culture is heading already, why not skip the sticks phase and proceed directly to the handgun phase?
Heh heh! But only if they modify the gun sights to sit on the side of the barrel. You gotta hold the gun sideways you know.
On that note, a friend of a friend works in a county (or city, I dunno) jail, and asked one of the gangbangers who was checking in why they hold their guns sideways like that. His response was that you can see the recoil and the case ejecting from the handgun that way. So apparently you get to see the pretty flashes when you hold your gun sideways. At least was this person’s response as to why they do it.
