Sarcasm research
Sarcasm Center of the Brain Located by Researchers
Israeli researchers have discovered the region of the brain responsible for understanding sarcasm. If that region of the brain is not functioning properly, the researchers found that subjects could only understand the literal meaning of another person’s words. The results of the study were published in the May issue of the journal ‘Neuropsychology.’
I wonder if this perhaps opens some doors for researchers studying autism and Asperger’s. As I understand it, people with these disorders struggle with non-literal communication. Here’s hoping….

weird. i thought sarcasm was more cultural – when i was in senegal, people didn’t really understand my (or my best volunteer friend’s) employment of it. but maybe i was just speaking bad french/wolof, and they just couldn’t understand my english. 😛
Ooh, they discovered the sarcasm center, I’m SO impressed…
Sarcasm is a culturally framed behavior, but the ability to grasp it depends on having the right wiring in place in the brain.
bah-dump-PAH!!
