Justice Dept. on the ball

Okay, let me make sure I have this right: the US Justice Department will be launching a criminal investigation into the apparent leaking of info about Bush’s double-secret-probation (and potentially illegal) spy op on American citizens on American soil to the NY Times, right?

Good. And here’s hoping they employ the same full-discosure, whole-truth-at-any-cost full-court press tactics that we’ve seen from all corners of the Bush administration in its attempt to uncover and punish to the fullest extent of the law the treasonous miscreant(s) who outed American CIA operative Valerie Plame.

You damn skippy – ’cause we’re Americans, by God, and we expect – nay, insist upon – fairness, honesty, transparency and integrity from our elected officials. Anything less would be downright Liberal.

  • Now, I may be mistaken about this, but haven’t courts said Bush’s Big Brother Program is legal? Or was that just the political parties bickering among themselves? I find it increasingly difficult to see what is actual news and which is just someone throwing a hissy fit since the politicians throw hissy fits about the news these days.
Also, I don’t understand why everyone is so surprised about the spying. Did anyone actually think this wouldn’t happen? Is anyone that naive? The only surprise here is that someone had the guts to leak it to the Times. Also, is anyone surprised that the Times waited until the Patriot Act began to sunset before they released the story? Just thought I’d ask.

  • Some contend that what Bush is doing is legal. Plenty of others disagree. I suspect we have nopt heard the last of it. In any case, the courts often strike me as being populated by people who either haven’t read the Constitution or who, if they have, simply don’t believe it means what it says. At the VERY least he’s guilty of flogging the spirit of the document to death.
And I don’t recall saying I was SURPRISED. Hell, I’d have been surprised if it WEREN’T going on.

  • I didn’t mean you, just the masses in general.

  • Yes, well. I think I’ve proven pretty conclusively that I can’t speak for the masses.

  • Heh – and “interesting” is such a value-neutral term…. 🙂
