Boondocks, MLK and Niggas

Check mediastar‘s entry on the MLK “Niggas” episode from The Boondocks.

Holy shit. I was originally skeptical about the Boondocks TV show. I just didn’t know if McGruder could translate his particular genius into the longer form. But this is brilliant, and he couldn’t have done it in a strip.

I’m glad McGruder took this one on. I’ve written on this subject a couple times, and he’s is right. The Civil Rights movement fought and sacrificed for this?

  • I keep catching the last few minutes of any episode that comes on, so I haven’t been able to really get a good picture of the quality of this show yet. Always enjoyed the comic though.

  • Yeah, I think McGruder really needs to find a way to get the show on at an earlier time. think it’ll be a climb up a sheer cliff, but this man’s ideas need to be seen.
If nothing else, he would make a few people think (BLASPHEMY!).

  • As George Clinton said, “Think – it ain’t illegal yet.”

  • The episode where Riley convinces Grandpa to have MTV pimp his ride and they get involved in deeper and deeper deception was hysterical. The scene when Riley tells Grandpa he needs to change his middle name to “Bitches” and then says “I don’t mean it in a disrespectful way” was one of the funniest I’ve seen in a while. Good show, I’m glad they could do the excellent comic justice. I need to see the MLK ep, I missed it when it aired.
