A vote for the Democrats is a vote for Hitler

(Pulled from a comment thread over on .)

At this point, it looks like the GOP is going to be throwing everything they have at the mid-terms. I expected some gas-related shenanigans before the ’04 election and it didn’t happen, which either indicates that I’m overly paranoid or that the Bush camp knew they were safe. Or both.

Now, though, the administration is playing the Hitler card, trying to convince us all that it’s 1939 and that al Qaeda is the Nazis (thx to angliss for pointing this one out). This is, from a rhetorical perspective, the nuclear option. Once you’ve trotted the 3rd Reich out, you either win or you’re in deep kim-chee, because if this fails you have no real place to go. Nothing is worse than Hitler. Not even a Liberal.

I suppose you can interpret this as desperation, and the last e-mail I got from MoveOn indicates that they’re taking desperation as a good sign. In a way it is. But let’s not lose sight of the fact that animals are most dangerous when they’re desperate and that we’re dealing with an electorate that has picked wrong a lot lately.

Karl Rove has proven himself a master at using his enemies’ momentum against them, and there’s probably a lot of value in stepping back and asking whether he’s actually as desperate as he looks…
