I need a number
Maybe somebody here can answer this one. Do we know roughly how much money is owed in student loan debt? That is, if you take all of America’s college grads who are paying back their loans, what is that total number?
Thanks in advance…

I’m not ambitious enough to do the digging, but here’s where I’d start if I were:

You clearly failed to grasp the subtle, underlying theme of the post. To wit, I need a research staff. 🙂
Thanks, though – this looks intense…

Easy one. The budget’s right on line:
http://www.ed.gov/about/overview/budget/studentloantables/index.html
They even put it in excel to make it easier to play with the numbers (the list has the average amount and the total number of borrowers).
The payoff rates might not be available unless you want estimates. Stafford numbers are probably out there, but there are a lot of private loans that won’t be collated.

Darn it, that’s me.
