The music meme from Hell
Okay, sirpaulsbuddy can kiss my ass for this one. The rules: go to Pop Culture Madness and find the list of hit songs for the year you turned 18. Copy and paste them into your blog. Strike through the ones you dislike. Italicize the ones you like. Unbold the ones you’re indifferent about.

God, dude. You’re old. 😉
Did you know that Devo based their entire Freedom of Choice album after “My Sharona”? You can really hear it in songs like “Girl U Want”. You can even hear it in Toni Basil’s “Mickey” which she co-wrote with Devo.

You’ve got it much better than I.

I didn’t know that, but now that you say it, I can hear it.

As horrific as this is, it’s probably not worse than having to endure the disco years. Still, that would be like arguing whether it’s better to be shot or stabbed….
I have to admit there were better musical years. (evil smile) I checked my own list, and found I did much better than you did, although that depends a lot on who’s looking at the list. (For the record, a lot of my reactions to your list would be the same as yours.)

I’m wondering if there was ever a WORSE year than mine.

Yeow. Dark days indeed. I turned 11 in 1979 and liked a few more of those songs then. But not now.

My shot at the same year – and yeah, we’re old. *shrug*

Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting….
Much worse than any song on your list is that creepy, scary, gawd-awful photo of the Bee Gees you chose to slap up alongside it…
If you REALLY want to see how musically sucky your 18th year was, there’s a more comprehensive list a bit further down from the Billboard dated entries, 75 hits listed year by year.
My year, 1974, was tainted by only one ABBA song, so there’s that to be thankful for. (There were other taints, but only one by ABBA, just to clarify)

Try 1991. Horrifying.

What a difference a year can make
My brother and I are 17 months apart in age, but more than that apart in musical good fortune. My list (with which he agrees) has at least half a dozen really decent songs on it. For his year, we’re both straining to find more than a couple.
