US vs. Australia: That. Was. Horrible.

Did anybody catch this morning’s rec league match between the US and Australia? Easily the worst game between two World Cup qualifiers that I have ever seen. If the US plays this way once the tournament starts they not only won’t advance, they won’t take a point. England will beat them by 20.

Good news: Edson Buddle finished his chances. Now, both of those goals came off of Roo defensive fuck-ups, but that isn’t his fault. So good for him.

Bad news: most everything else. The defense couldn’t have marked ME. Or maybe they could, if only they’d had some interest in marking. Australia should have scored six. Literally. The midfield was okay – Donovan running and creating space, Dempsey looks ready to go, and the center mid pair of Bradley and Clark is the real backbone of the team.

Worst news: how in the hell does Robbie Findley get on a national team? Once there, how does he actually get into a game? He blew two empty net layups and had at least three chances with the ball on his foot to set up opportunities for others. The best that can be said of those moments was that he didn’t trip over the ball and break his face, although he did stub his toe badly on one of them. Jesus – worst attacker to ever wear a US uniform? Quite possibly. You’re better off just playing with an extra fullback. Hell, you may be just as well off playing a man down.

Coach Bradley has a busy week ahead of him. This team is NOWHERE near ready and if this is what they bring to the stadium next Saturday the ass-whipping they take will epic.
