ArtSunday: photography for the holidays (and any other day) from 5280 Lens Mafia
Our sister site, the 5280 Lens Mafia photoblog, launched not long back, and we continue to produce some very nice work. I thought I’d take a few moments to share some recent shots from the team, which I think you’ll enjoy.
Let’s get the show off to a seasonal start with this from Greg Thow (who has featured here at S&R, as well).
S&R mainstay Dr. Denny is the king of the nature macro photo, and two of his latest are absolutely stunning winter shots.
Former S&R staff photographer Dawn Farmer just got back from London. This is from a wonderful light box sequence she shot at the Tate Modern.
Greg Stene (who lived with Denny and me for two years in grad school and who has never quite been the same) offered up this interesting take: a black and white shot of the Painted Desert.
Andrea Frantz took this wonderful pic at Millennium Park in Chicago.
Apparently my colleagues like to travel. Here’s another shot from the road: Kelly Bearden and the Christian Science Plaza in Boston.
Back in October, Michael Pecaut shared this one with us. The vantage: Monet’s window. Yes, that’s the pond you’re looking at.
I freakin’ love this self-portrait from Dan Ryan, which I assume will be used on the cover of the next Dan Ryan & Double Trouble CD.
Stuart O’Steen is simply remarkable when it comes to capturing people. Here’s a great one from around Halloween.
Here’s my favorite shot from Manuela Marin Salcedo’s outstanding series on cheerleaders.
While Tom Yulsman specializes in stunning nature photography, perhaps his most compelling shot of late was this one, taken at an Obama rally in Boulder a few days before the election.
Let’s finish this series up on a big holiday note. Stuart and I went to the Parade of Lights here in Denver last week. And it was just a little creepy, honestly. Take these two, for instance.
Finally, here’s something from our newest member, Dan Chick (who some S&R readers will remember, as he was an integral part of our 2008 DNC coverage team). Ho Ho WHOA!
