Heh – well, there’s no doubt that Rove is both this smart and this evil, although that doesn’t mean he actually did it.

STILL, it’s worth noting that we aren’t talking about the issues that actually matter in people’s lives. So to the extent that Bush can keep the agenda stuck on Vietnam and his Guard service (or the lack thereof), he stands a better chance of winning. He CAN’T win on 2004, so he has to take his best whack at winning on 1972. So even if the story the press is fixated on makes Bush look bad, it’s still better than the alternative.
