Celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred wants Florida to prosecute Limbaugh using forgotten statute: she’s the best thing that’s happened to Rush in weeks
I wonder what Rush Limbaugh will be talking about on his show this coming week? Ah, maybe this:
In a letter dated March 8, [celebrity lawyer Gloria] Allred, writing on behalf of the Women’s Equal Rights Legal Defense and Education Fund, requested that Palm Beach County State Attorney Michael McAuliffe probe whether the conservative radio personality had violated Section 836.04 of the Florida Statutes by calling Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke the two derogatory words.
The statute stipulates that anyone who “speaks of and concerning any woman, married or unmarried, falsely and maliciously imputing to her a want of chastity” is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree. Allred explained that the statute recently came to her attention as having never been repealed, and that it could very well apply to Limbaugh’s remarks as his show is broadcast from West Palm Beach.
Just. Fucking. Wonderful.
Listen, I think Rush needs to be dealt with using the proper tools of our system, and I talked at some length about that system (Free Speech for Dittoheads and Other Dummies) a few days ago. Those appropriate tactics DO NOT include this unmitigated bullshit. Gloria, on behalf of Americans with brains everywhere, do us a favor: please shut the fuck up. You’re embarrassing yourself and thanks to you, Team Oxycodone no longer has to play defense. They can point to the shrill feminazi Hollywood ambulance chaser who wants to rig up a hot tub time machine so that she can dredge up dead laws from the past to further the librul anti-freedom, pro-censorship agenda. Thanks to you, Limbaugh now has an infinitely full bandolier of ammunition to use this coming week when he finally goes back on the attack.
I have a rule. Never ascribe to conspiracy what can just as easily be chalked up to basic stupidity. Were it not for that rule, I’d almost wonder if Limbaugh hired you to do this.
So, just to be clear, especially for our conservative readers, this progressive (and I suspect most of the others I know) are not in favor of this sort of foolishness.

Thanks to Joshua Holland for the tip.

Hear, hear! Just btw, the Politico article fails to mention that Ms. Allred currently serves as president of Women’s Equal Rights Legal Defense and Education Fund (WERLDEF).

Oh, and LOL…you might enjoy this. I just tried Googling that group. Good luck finding much that doesn’t have to do with the Limbaugh case. Here’s the funny bit. I Googled:
“Women’s Equal Rights Legal Defense and Education Fund” -limbaugh -allred
Results?
About 666 results (0.30 seconds)
For a fund incorporated in 1978, there’s precious little to be found about them online. Odd.

Maybe they exist as an emergency front for those cases when Gloria realizes nobody is paying any attention to her lately.
STFU, indeed. And yeah, the organization sounds completely made up. They don’t even have remotely professional letterhead. I’d like to think the whole thing is a hoax, but given that it’s Allred . . .
