Fuck Roy Cooper in ’26

I’ll never vote for the lesser evil again, because the lesser evil is still evil.
I just voted.
Nothing I did would surprise anybody who knows me, but I do want to take a couple seconds to call out the one race that I believe typifies how a lot of us on the left side of the aisle feel.
Standing for the Senate seat here in North Carolina is former Governor Roy Cooper. His opponent, Michael Whatley, is bad even by Republican standards. The polls show Cooper well ahead, so I don’t kid myself that my vote matters.
For many people, a vote for Cooper is the obvious choice. But in the ad he’s running right now, he says it’s important to clean up the corruption in Washington by both Republicans and Democrats.
Lord, deliver me from Democratic corruption.
To say there’s corruption in both parties is about as controversial as saying the sky is blue. And since Roy has been a career Democratic politician for several decades, I’m certain he knows enough about Democratic corruption to curl a unicorn’s nut fuzz.
But this pitch is, in this environment, as bad a case of false equivalence as you’ll ever see. Theft is a crime, sure, but to say Al Capone was as bad as Pol Pot is, at best, bad form.
Also, in an ad he ran several weeks ago, Cooper talks about how worked with Republicans and Trump (calls him out by name) something like three times in 10 seconds.
In other words, at this point in the campaign, Cooper is running to the right of where John Fetterman was four years ago.
I’m voting for change. I’m voting for resistance.
You don’t get my vote for promising to work with Donald Trump. You don’t get my vote by refusing to call out the Republican Party for a reign of neo-fascism the historians will be talking about for centuries (assuming we last that long).
Fuck Roy Cooper. It won’t matter, but I voted Green.
And I’ll never vote for the lesser evil again as long as I live, because the lesser evil is still evil.
