Rain songs: Saturday Video Roundup
I hope you’re enjoying a gorgeous spring day wherever you are, but i’s been raining here in the 5280 for a week now, and the weather report promises more for the weekend, except for the period when the rain stops and the snow starts. But we need the moisture. And some music to celebrate it.
Let’s start with the definitive rainy day song.
I was five years old when Peter, Paul and Mary did this one.
And here’s the same song, this time from the guy who wrote it.
I was never much of a CCR fan, but there’s no denying the greatness of this one.
Here’s where I fell in love with Shirley Manson, although maybe I shouldn’t have. Those in the know might argue that it isn’t really about rain at all, but let’s play along.
God, I loved Karen Carpenter. She was beauty incarnate, especially on “Rainy Days and Mondays.”
We’ll close with a favorite many of you may not know – “London Rain,” by Heather Nova.
They tell you that into every life a little rain must fall. What they don’t tell you is that this is a blessing.
Happy Saturday.
Not a Creedence fan? WTF is wrong widju?
I know it’s not summer yet, but I’d include this one also.
WTF is wrong widju?
Depends on who you ask.
Chris: Good one.
Nice call.
Pogues, my friends, with longing, love, loss, and rain….
It’s pop schlock, but I’m fond of hearing this song when I’m smoking alone under a balcony that’s above an apartment where I stay in Tokyo, and it’s raining and I need another beer….
I’ve always been a sucker for Elvis’ Kentucky Rain.
Then there is this gem by Brook Benton:
I could listen to this song every day. Love Brook Benton. My Dad must have too, when he gave me his old 45s, there were 11 Brook Benton singles.
Of course you ignored the greatest rain song, Sam:
Yeah, that’s a good one.
