RIP: Miss Sharon Jones (S&R Honors)
2016 has snuffed another brilliant light.
Sharon Jones, one of the icons of the neo-Soul revival in the last decade, is dead of cancer at the age of 60. Scholars & Rogues honors the heart and soul of Daptone Records.

Miss Sharon Jones: The Mayan Theatre, Denver
Sharon didn’t let her battle with cancer slow her down any more than was absolutely necessary.
This is one of her very best.
And maybe my favorite Sharon Jones track ever.
Somehow Jones never discovered until she was in her late 40s – remarkable given the power and nuance of her voice – and in this respect is a source of inspiration for those of us who still haven’t “made it,” even though we believe we have something to say to the world, something the world ought to stop and hear.
We didn’t get to know Sharon long, but every minute of those few short years were packed with soul and love.
We miss you already.

I got this terrible news in my email from Dap-Tone last night. Give the People What They Want is a fantastic album, one of my favorites from the last few years.
