The independently minded political animal always wrestles with times of transition, and the changeover from the Bush to Obama regimes has been worse than most. During the Dubya years it was easy to identify the enemy and to hate him with a blinding passion. Sweet Jesus, George II and his sidekick, The Dick Cheney, played their roles with less nuance than the bad guy in Rambo 12: Return of Ming the Merciless (directed by Roland Emmerich), making it easy to identify with the loyal opposition just on principle.
But it’s important to remember that the enemy of my enemy isn’t necessarily my friend. They might just be fighting over which one gets to eat my tender bits. Read more
Quick, point your twitterers to @owillis right now. Oliver Willis has apparently had enough of Harry Reid’s cluelessness and is just going nuts on him. This is the most fun anybody has had at the expense of a public official since the Iraqi Information Minister.
As noted yesterday, a new national intelligence report has caught the Bush White House in yet another round of warmongering lies. No real surprise there. The revelation elicited a range of replies from a variety of predictably interested parties.

Every once in a while stray facts and rumors collide in a way that causes my antennae to twitch. Sometimes it’s nothing, but sometimes it’s not. In any case, I like to get it out there to see if anybody can flesh it out or explain why I’m just being paranoid. Such a case buzzed around this morning.
For a few moments there it seemed like the new Dem “leadership” had really gotten its act together. Now, though, it begins to look like they’re the very gutless dupes that Republicans have been telling us they are for so long. They have “reached out” to President Bush, and using a mandate backed by a good 70% of the public they have forced him to by god accept a blank check to continue the occupation of Iraq.
That’ll show him who’s boss.
Keith Olbermann lays a well-deserved caning on them in his latest Special Comment. Read more
